I almost didn't go to Cross Fit this morning because it was a partner workout (You do an activity, you rest while your partner does something). In an AMRAP (as many reps as possible) situation I fear my unlucky partner will get a lot of rest and not a lot of working out while I plod along. Also, my form suffers because I'm rushing. I planned on doing the workout of the day on my own and just resting in between. Wasn't able to get away with that (damn).
Fortunately, my partner was tired from the day before and we were well matched in terms of time taken to complete the activities. I also used lighter weights and lower height for the box jumps. Here's our setup. It really does have a Papa Bear and Baby Bear look to it, no?

Basilicious
A Carleton/Swing Dancing/Cross Fit friend of mine who shares my name, but not the spelling (Jayme) own ducks & rabbits. She's also got a delicious selection of greens in a garden. I was inspired/jealous and decided that I wanted fresh basil nearby.
So, I bought some basil and the Durham Farmer's market, went to Target for a pot and some soil (it was really strange to buy dirt).
Based on what I read, basil requires good drainage so I walked around my apartment complex and found some small stones to line the bottom of the pot. I felt a little bit like my dad, scavenging for stones. He's built stone walls based on a gradual mining of rocks from various areas.
And here's the finish product. I've tried this sort of thing before and my black thumb prevails. So basil plant, I will water you, give you sun, harvest you and necessary. Please don't die.
And now I have a 1/2 bag of moisture control potting mix in my apartment. The minimalist in me doesn't love the idea of storing dirt but who knows. If I have any sort of green thumb, I might find the basil a friend.

Ramblin Rose
And triathlon season is underway. Starting with Ramblin' Rose.
I got my race packet the day prior and was delighted to see my name on my bib. I was less delighted that I was body marked the day before the race. I felt like jailbird. They wrote my name on my arm (this is unusual) and they wrote 34 as my age on the back of my leg (this is not unusual - they age you up based on how old you'll be at the end of the year).
Here's my little piece of real estate in the transition area.
I was pleased to learn a fellow Lindy Hopper would be joining me. And, this was her first triathlon. Here we are posing as if we are doing a swing out. Cross-pollination of worlds.
I signed up for this triathlon to kick start the season. Sometimes it just takes one do get jazzed to train for the others. I had one goal. To beat my time from the Rex Wellness triathlon I did in late August last year. I pretty much just "showed up" for the Rex tri without any training. My times reflect that.
I didn't do much sport specific training (swim, ride, run) for Ramblin Rose but my overall level of fitness is better and I beat Jamie August 2010.
I passed about 5 people in the pool. And ranked pretty high for swim pace. Thing is, I know I can push myself harder and go faster. Too bad the swim time has so little to do with overall time.
Here I am doing the hokey pokey (you put your left foot in, you put your left foot out) while waiting to jump into the pool. No kidding on jumping. Never started like that. Whee!
Ramblin Rose was an all women's tri. I didn't notice much of a difference, really. I did see a lady in a tiara and the cheering section looked remarkably like the shoe department at Nordstrom.
Next up, Doughman. A triathlon with eating.

"Boing," thought Ramona, "Boing."
I grew up reading Ramona. To this day, anytime I see someone with curly hair I think "Boing Thought Ramona Boing."
It was a little weird to see characters I so deeply associate with Sex & The City and Big Love in this happy, light, G-rated movie. I was kinda happy when "Margene" got married and had her husband all to herself.

Time for lunch, Scooby Doo
My eating habits are erratic. More bad than good.
I went to a Nutritionist. She asked what I had planned for lunch that day.
I actually had some semblance of a plan (relative to most days) and excitedly told her about some grapes I had grabbed that morning and carrots in the work fridge. I know that's not really a meal, but I felt I should get some "credit" for doing something. I made sure of this when I set my goals. One day, the lunch has to be good, the other day, it just has to be something.
Believe it or not this lunchbox will help with my make/bring lunch effort.
