On Friday, I made some plans to go for a mountain bike ride with friends. They said "Yeah, just 13 miles - we'll get some ice cream in Hillsborough." What I did not realize was we would be doing 13 miles ONE WAY for a total of 26 miles. I didn't know I had it in me. But apparently, I did. Note to self: Black is a good color for fashion. But not a good color for mountain biking. Here we are a stretching. That is my leg in the foreground. Amanda and Katheryn in the background.

I decided that I need a goal for my workouts, I need to do more things outside of the gym, explore my new state so I am going to train for a triathalon. Not the big blown out deal, the sprint variety - swim 750, bike 12 miles, run 3 miles. I am a great swimmer, an ok biker and a terrible runner. So, I should be able to complete an ok triathalon. On average.

Explored the area past Chapel Hill today called Carborro. Came upon and area with lots of people, tables, activity etc The "Car Mill" - apparently, it's all centered around a co-op kind of grocery store. Who knew that a grocery store could be such a hot spot.
There was a woman there who has 30 cats at home. She had brought some of them for adoption. It was fun to pet the kitties. I do want one. Or a Pit Bull. I wouldn't want 30, though.
I need to get a digital camera so I can share all my wild explorations with my readers. Given that I'm working on Sony, I'll probably get some Sony variety of camera.

Today I had lunch at a place called "Mama Dips." I ordered Fried Green Tomatoes. I wonder if they have Chicken Fried Green Tomatoes. It seems like you can get everything Chicken Fried.
Here's a piece of advice. If you're ever in a new place and need to feel comforted, try the Top 40 Station. They all play the same songs, wherever you go.

I've always been fascinated by small town America. Leavenworth proved no exception. (Leavenworth in Washington State, that is - although I'm sure Leavenworth Kansas is equally interesting in it's own right)
My sister and I kareoked our hearts out at the only place in town open after 10. We started off singing "Reunited" and told everyone in the bar that we had just been reunited on Dr. Phil a month prior.
Let's hear it for "The Sisters"

Dark and silent late last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I'm going, going
I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
With a holy host of others standing 'round me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and goin' to Carolina in my mind

Okay, okay. DAVID BRAVERMAN took the black and white picture of me to the right, the picture of me and Weasel (I thought Anne took that one, actually) and the picture of me and Naomi with my red hair and Naomi's surprise socks.
Happy David?
Addition: Said photographer, David Braverman (sorry, no caps this time) just started his own blog.
He'll be writing about the
Weather
Anne
Software
Politics
(Can you guess the catchy acronym Anne came up with?)

This is Boo. Boo Who? The littlest pitbull.
By the end of the weekend, my sister will have been to the ER three times. She's gone twice already. The first time she was diagnosed with a kidney infection. The second time she was diagnosed with viral meningitis. Tomorrow, she's going to get a refill of Percocet. Apparently, if you want that stuff on the weeekend, you've got to go to the ER.
So I am sitting around watching movies taking pictures of the dogs with her picture phone.
Sleepless in Seattle? No, all the Princess does is sleep.
Friday, November 11, 2005

I am in Seattle visiting my sister, the Princess. It is raining. She has taken me to many fun places, including the Emergency Room.
My sister was not feeling well when I arrived. In fact, she was in so much pain last night that I had to drive her stick shift through downtown Seattle in rush hour traffic. I haven't driven a stick shift since doing it in Italy down a narrow (all streets in Italy are narrow, I guess), cobblestone street in heels.
So today, I watched Princess vomit as well as watched some movies. I made friends with her dog, Pilot who is a small dog. But her other "puppy", the 80 pound PITBULL got jealous of the small dog and wanted to cuddle up with me too. So here is a picture of Stanley (who is a girl dog) in my lap.

Driving in Dallas
Driving in Dallas with all our presentation materials for a new business pitch. I think the air conditioning in the car is swell. Wait, that's real air. Coming from the back of the car where the window was left open and our materials precariously remain inside the car. That was close.

This is us after the pitch.

I escaped Minnesota. Thank goodness. I don't know how the hell I ended up there again after hating it so much the first time around. Well, I do. I did love working at Fallon and that was so wonderful it was actually worth the tundra temps and 3:30pm sunsets.
So I'm back in New York City. But I'm finding that New York is also cold. Somehow I thought when I left Minnesota I would just never be cold again. But sadly, that's not true. So I'm looking at jobs in Miami and San Fran. No, I'm not just looking there to be warm. I'm a bit more of a careerist than that. There's a great agency in Miami called Crispin Porter + Bogusky. They are hot hot hot right now. They do Mini BMW, Ikea, Burger King (subservientchicken.com), Molson Beer and a bunch of other cool stuff. The agency in San Fran is called Goodby Silverstein and Partners. Either would be great. Of course, staying in New York city and working somewhere here is also an option.
Not only am I cold all the time I'm also hungry all the time. So I've started the South Beach Diet (again). It was sort of out of necessity. I got a freelance advertising job and realized that my work wardrobe doesn't fit anymore. If I don't lose some weight I'll have to spend more money on work clothes than I'll earn working. Messed up, no?
It is a beautiful day. But I have a bit of a fever. The other night I couldn't sleep and from 1am to 2am I watched American Mullet. Ah, TV.
I can't wait for it to get warm enough so I can SWIM.
